Job Description

ARCH North East is a constantly evolving organisation with a real ethos for quality and local services for victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse. Based in Middlesbrough, we provide advocacy services to young people and adults as well as counselling services to people, who have been impacted by sexual violence at any time in their lives. A ‘can do’ attitude is a vital asset at ARCH and we are looking for like-minded individuals’ to work with us who share the same approach and work ethic.

The Youth Worker must be fully committed to the aims and objectives of ARCH, conducting themselves within the ethos of the charity at all times and work in line with the centre’s equality and diversity policy and feminist values.

Job Role

To work within a multi-agency setting to develop and deliver an education programme to all key stages in schools and youth club settings across Teesside as part of a pro-active service providing expert, quality support to women, men, children, and young people who have been affected by rape or sexual abuse within and outside of the criminal justice system.

  • To ensure the development and successful delivery of identified youth project work on behalf of ARCH.
  • To ensure that the development and delivery of youth project work is consistent with the aims and objectives of ARCH.

Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder must have the confidence and experience of working with young people and be able to work on their own initiative in an engaging and imaginative way to promote a high-quality delivery of this difficult and sometimes socially challenging topic.

  • You will be delivering key messages around the impact of sexual violence and abuse and consent in schools and other youth settings.
  • You will be responsible for confirming all your own visits and must be able to demonstrate good planning, organisation and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively are important.
  • Work in consultation with key partners and stakeholders (including funders, commissioners and young people) where appropriate to ensure that project work is needs led and that service gaps are identified and addressed in line with the aims and objectives of ARCH.
  • To work to agreed deadlines.
  • To develop opportunities to deliver training, preventative programmes and awareness raising with young people around preventing sexual violence, issues of consent and intimate partner abuse.
  • To develop opportunities offered by social media as a means of raising awareness of the issues surrounding sexual violence and the services of ARCH providing support to clients engaging in campaign work.
  • To develop group work for young people.

General

  • Contribute to performance management process
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of services
  • Follow procedures and protocols
  • Contribute to the development of service policies, protocols, guidelines and strategies within area of practice as necessary.
  • To develop and maintain effective communication systems with key partners including the police, CPS, court service, social services, children’s services, education, primary care trust (mental and sexual health), Victim Care Advice Service (VCAS), Witness Service and voluntary sector organisations etc.
  • To participate in team meetings
  • To provide specialist advice to other workers and agencies, including participation in delivery of training sessions.
  • Provide a clear understanding of the myths and facts of sexual violence, rape trauma syndrome, the long-term mental health effects of sexual violence, self-harm, suicidal feelings and attempts.
  • To help raise awareness with other agencies via stalls, presentations etc.
