Charity or voluntary work can be extremely rewarding and fulfilling work with opportunities for people to give as much or as little time as they have.
This Sector known as the Third Sector can provide opportunities for paid and voluntary work and offers people who care passionately about injustice, disadvantaged people, the environment, animals etc. the chance to do something that really makes a difference in a not-for-profit company.
There are all types of organisations who make up the charity/voluntary sector from small local community based organisations through to large national and international organisations such as Oxfam, NSPCC and the VSO.
Voluntary Vacancies
With over 140,000 charities in the UK this is a growth sector although many organisations employ just a handful of people. Some of the larger organisations do offer graduate schemes but if money is your motivation, then you perhaps need to think again as starting salaries start from £0 to around £15K during training.
Organisations like Gap Year for Grown-ups can provide voluntary overseas work and give people the opportunity to take time out and use the skills they’ve acquired overseas to help others. Community based charities work at grass route level helping people get back in to work, teaching computer skills, providing child care, social support etc. for example community Service Volunteers might work with disadvantaged young people in schools or community centres.
Volunteering provides everyone no matter their personal circumstances with the opportunity to do something worthwhile and give something back.
