Technician in Engineering (2025/AG011)

East Durham College is seeking a proactive and skilled Engineering Technician to support the smooth and safe operation of our Engineering department. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic educational environment, helping shape the next generation of engineers. This role is a offered on a full time term time basis working 37 hours over 38 weeks.

Main Duties:

• Health & Safety:
  Ensure workshops and classrooms meet health and safety standards, conduct regular equipment checks, and support safe working practices.

• Technical & Teaching Support:
  Prepare tools and materials for lessons, assist staff during practical sessions, and provide technical guidance to students.

• Procurement & Resource Management:
  Manage stock levels, order equipment and consumables, and maintain workshop organisation and cleanliness.

• General Support:
  Collaborate with staff to ensure effective lesson delivery, support departmental events, and engage in ongoing professional development.

Essential Criteria:

• Level 3 qualification in a relevant technical/engineering discipline
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
• Experience working in an engineering workshop or technical environment
• Strong knowledge of workshop machinery, tools, and equipment
• Awareness of health and safety practices in educational/workshop settings
• Good organisational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Full UK Driving Licence (or access to transport)

Desirable:

• Experience supporting learners in an educational setting
• Skills in procurement, stock control, and equipment maintenance
• Previous involvement in technical support for apprentices or trainees
