Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting people with complex mental health needs? Do you have previous experience of working with this client group and wish to continue making a positive impact? If so, we want to hear from you!

We have four Support Worker roles available at Coalway Lane, which is one of our 24-hour specialist Adult Services. This service supports adults who have mental health needs and often experience multiple complex and interconnected challenges. We work with people who have experienced trauma in their lives and can present with behaviours that challenge. We understand that every behaviour is an expression of unmet need and we work hard to build helpful and trusting relationships, offering stability and consistency.

You will be a vital member of our professional and welcoming team. Using your previous experience of working with people with complex mental health needs and good communication skills, you will work alongside our Mental Health Nurses and Clinical Leads to support our service users to take the next step in their personal recovery.

We work in the least restrictive way and collaborate closely with the individual and other professionals to offer ‘just enough’ support, so that people can take the risks they need to in order to reach their potential, flourish in life and transition into a community setting.

To succeed in this role, you will be highly motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine desire to work with this client group. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team to support our service users to achieve their own recovery goals. As this is a 24-hour service, this role includes rota/shift work over a 7-day week, including waking night shifts.

Please note, as Coalway Lane is a CQC registered care home, we require all employees to be fully Covid-19 vaccinated with both doses unless they have a medical exemption. Evidence of vaccinations or medical exemption letter will be required. As we are sure you will appreciate; we fully support this approach and will follow this legislation in order to keep our service users, their families and our staff as safe as possible.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you possess the following:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with people with complex mental health needs, who can display behaviours that challenge.
  • A genuine desire to work with this client group.
  • Able to work well as part of team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with the people we care for.
  • Able to recognise and maintain appropriate boundaries and awareness of safeguarding issues.
