JOB PURPOSE:
You will work as part of a coordinated, innovative team to support and enhance the recovery, learning and personal development of children and young people.
You will provide specialist and restorative educational support within a school environment to help support skills recovery and Improve educational attainment.
This will include planning and delivering activities aimed at improving cognitive, communication and emotional functions and supporting learning aims through education focussed support sessions.
MAIN DUTIES:
Recovery and Learning
1.To help create a plan of activities that supports the identified needs aims and priorities set out in the support plan; ensuring it meets the needs of the individual, their interests and the abilities and goals of the child or young person.
2. To address the emerging or changed needs and functions by supporting their physical,
communication, cognitive, sensory, emotional and behavioural etc.
3. To contribute towards the achievement of the goals set out in the Support Plan and the
EHC Plan/IEP.
4. To deliver a range of activities to support learning and development as provided by the
Case Lead and as set out in the Support Plan.
5. To support children and young people to learn effectively by:
- Working to overcome pre-identified barriers to learning
- Making the best use of assistive technology (where needed)
-Ensuring CYP receive information suitable for their identified communication needs
- Motivating and encouraging the child/young person to participate in learning tasks
-Planning and delivering learning activities both on an individual basis and within small
groups to reinforce learning and understanding.
-Develop activities to support educational skills deficit areas, e.g. reading, spelling,
numeracy, handwriting etc
-Liaising with other professionals about Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and
Education, Health and Care Plans (EHC Plans)
-Consistently and effectively implement agreed cognitive, communication and
behaviour management approaches
6. To establish a knowledgeable and supportive relationship with the child/young person
to support their changed and or emerging complex needs
7. To give positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain the
individual’s efforts and develop self-reliance and self-esteem.
8. Support and aid the development of social skills, both in and out of the classroom
9. To provide regular feedback to the Case Manager and other professionals about the
child young person’s improvements, learning and behaviour needs.
10. To safeguard all children and young people, promptly raising any concerns to the
appropriate on-site staff member and to your line manager.
11. To work inclusively, with a diverse range of stakeholders and promote equality of
opportunity.
