Are you already a Special Constable looking for a new challenge in a new force area? Or perhaps you are looking for an opportunity to work within a dedicated unit? Cleveland wants to hear from you if you are.

Cleveland Police have vacancies across the force area for trained Special Constables to join our team. Although you are welcome to apply for response or neighbourhood policing positions, we also have two specialist areas who are looking for your help. Please indicate your preferences on your application.


Roads Policing Unit

Joining an existing small team of dedicated special constables, you will be required to work out of Wynyard police station where you will work with other special constables and regular roads policing officers to help keep the road network safe. You will attend road traffic collisions, conduct high visibility patrols, conduct speeding checks, arrest / report people for motoring offences as well as assisting the force with other priorities as necessary.


Rural Crime Team

A newly created team in the force you will work in the rural areas of Cleveland as part of a proactive group of special constables targeting offences occurring in our rural areas. These include wildlife & poaching offences, moving vehicle offences and regular policing duties in a rural area. You will be based in one of our teams, either in the North or South of the county and will be part of a dedicated team responsible for improving relationships in the rural community and reducing offending in this area.


To transfer to us in any position, we are ideally looking for you to:

  • Hold independent patrol status or equivalent
  • Be able to perform at least 16 hours per month of operational policing duties
  • Be interested in helping the communities of Cleveland
  • Be able to pass pre-employment and vetting checks.

Specific training will be given to support you carry out specialist roles and our dedicated units are still encouraged to support the work of the rest of the special constabulary and get involved with supporting regular policing activity across the force. This is a great opportunity for you to develop as a special constable and work in a force that is dedicated to ensuring special constables flourish to the best of their ability.
