Nepacs is a long-standing charity that supports people affected by contact with the criminal justice system.
We’re now looking for a compassionate, proactive Project Worker to join our Connect to
Court project — an exciting service offering early, practical and emotional support to families of
people in contact with the justice system, at any point from arrest through to court and sentencing.
About the role:
You'll work face-to-face with families facing emotional and practical challenges in community and
court settings across Durham, Newcastle and Teesside, providing guidance, reassurance and
advocacy during what is often an incredibly distressing time. You’ll also offer telephone befriending, help families navigate the system, and connect them to wider Nepacs support including hardship grants and youth services.
You’ll be a key source of support and information for families, liaising with other agencies and charities on their behalf. You’ll work alongside volunteers, many with lived experience, and be a key part of a caring and committed team making a real difference.
What we’re looking for:
•Experience supporting people in crisis or with complex needs, ideally in community settings
•Strong communication, advocacy and organisational skills
•Ability to build effective partnerships
•A calm, empathetic and non-judgemental approach
•A good understanding of safeguarding, boundaries and confidentiality
•Flexibility to travel and work occasional evenings/weekends
•Knowledge of the criminal justice system (desirable)
What we offer:
•A supportive, inclusive working environment
•5 weeks’ annual leave + bank holidays (pro rata)
•Mileage allowance
•Access to our pension scheme
•Opportunities for training and development
