Job Description

RE-ADVERTISED POST – PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY. Applications are invited for the post of Accountancy Services Manager to work as a key member of the Finance Department and Resources Directorate. The post is offered on a full time basis of 37 hours per week (Agile or flexible working is available).

The successful applicant will have specific responsibility for accountancy, budgeting, management reporting, treasury management and other aspects of work as required by the Director of Resources; the post-holder will prepare the annual Statement of Accounts together with high quality working papers, leading the Council’s team of Accountants. The work of the Finance Department follows strict deadlines that must be adhered to at all times. Previous experience in a managerial role is essential.

Applicants should be a qualified member of a CCAB body preferably CIPFA and have previous experience in an accountancy environment preferably in a local authority. The successful applicant will be computer literate with the ability to learn and use specialist packages such as Financial Information Systems as well as having experience of Microsoft Office packages. Competent arithmetic and literacy skills are required as well as the ability to work effectively within a team and also work alone on individual pieces of work. Knowledge of local authority technical accounting would be an advantage and the successful applicant is expected to have demonstrable strengths in developing effective working relationships at all levels within the organisation.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide information in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be requiredto obtain a Basic Disclosure.
