Job Description

Base: Hybrid between North Shore Academy and home,with travel to academies across all trust locations required from time to time

Please note: the post holder will be engaging in regulated activity, working mainly or wholly with children. This position is exempt from the rehabilitation of offender’s act 1974. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

Northern Education Trust (NET) is a charitable education Trust with a good track record for school improvement. The Trust sponsors 29 academies; 16 secondary and 13 primaries across the North of England in twelve Local Authority regions.

We are seeking an experienced governance clerk to join our team, to provide support to our academy councils. You will be flexible; have a keen interest in education; fantastic minuting skills; an excellent command of English and grammar; be self-motivated, well organised and a great listener; and did we mention flexible. We are happy to welcome new entrants to the governance clerking profession, but previous minute taking experience is a necessity, along with the desire to support governors to improve the life chances of our amazing students. Due to the nature of the work and the information you will be exposed to, discretion and confidentiality are an absolute must.

Although many meetings can be attended virtually, there will be a requirement to travel to NET academies to attend meetings in person from time to time. Travel expenses are provided. As the majority of your work will be done from home, you will need a strong enough internet connection to ensure you can connect to virtual meetings without difficulty (cameras have to be on!)

Depending on your choice of how many hours you work per week, you will be assigned to up to five academy councils. Each academy council meets six times per year, with meetings taking place after school hours (late afternoons/early evenings), and usually lasting around two hours. Whilst these are planned a year in advance, student behaviour committees are held as the need arises, and are normally held within school hours on any weekday – hence the need for flexibility.

If this sounds like your dream job, please do get in touch. In return you’ll be a highly valued member of staff, meet some of the most interesting people from all walks of life, gain a deep understanding of the education system, and know you play an important part in improving the life chances of our students.

Northern Education Trust offers:

?The opportunity to work and progress across the family of schools;

?A full and detailed programme of support and development for all;

?A further comprehensive programme of professional development, including leadership, provided through the NET Staff College.

Employee benefits

?Free flu vaccinations

?Free onsite parking

?Employee discounts such as competitively priced car leasing

?Access to various discount sites

In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024, an online search will be completed on all shortlisted applicants prior to interview.  Any relevant information will be discussed further with the applicant during the interview process.

The Trust is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All posts are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring service checks. We expect all adults to share our commitment to safeguarding and the health and wellbeing of our pupils.
