The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.
The National Education Union is the largest education union in Europe and the fourth largest union in the Trades Union Congress (TUC). We are an effective and powerful voice – championing everyone who works in education.
Regional Support Officers play a key role in the Regional Team, as they contribute to the strength of the Union by efficiently and effectively supporting members, activists and lay officers across the region. The fundamental focus of this role is undertaking written casework and providing casework advice and support to lay officers and workplace representatives and supporting other officers in casework preparation.
The role also involves undertaking some research in preparation for negotiations with employers in a wide range of educational institutions, supporting recruitment work, and supporting increasing activism in their region, in line with national priorities.
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate good knowledge of employment law, employment practices, policies and procedures as well as a good understanding of Trade Union Organising. They will also need to have sound analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with developed communications skills, and be able to persuade others, including dealing confidently with difficult and sensitive situations, in a confidential manner.
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to the Trade Union movement and can work flexibly as part of a team with good organisational skills, who are able to prioritise, to work under pressure and at times to use their own initiative. Prospective applicants should also note that these roles are undertaken from the Regional Office, but mobile work may be undertaken on occasions.
In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1,035, 6.6 weeks’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a final salary pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.
