Job Description

To directly support, guide and train young people aged 8-18 accessing services at Stepney Bank Stables. To Engage, motivate and provide emotional support to our young attendees. To implement strategies to manage and deal with challenging behaviours, develop and implement tools which Monitor and evaluate the progress of young attendees. To be responsible for liaising with schools regarding performance and attendance. You will be responsible for developing and delivering programmes and activities that boost skills, confidence and improve future prospects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES /ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To be responsible for the development and delivery of SBS youth project
  • To supervise a team of workers who will help deliver SBS youth programme
  • To implement strategies and activities to deal with and minimise disruptive behaviour, and to promote inclusion across the project.
  • To develop working relationships with the volunteers and vulnerable young people  building trust to enable problem solving
  • To provide support to all volunteers and attendees of the stables.
  • Seek out and involve all young people at risk of being socially excluded or isolated within our project.
  • To be a positive role model and key contact for all young volunteers; to include high standards of personal presentation, and to encourage volunteers to develop appropriate relationships with their peers.
  • To work alongside volunteers to help develop a true sense of identity and feel of self-worth.
  • Remind young volunteers of Stables’ Policies regarding inappropriate language, behaviour or comments when necessary
  • Provide day to day supervision and support for the young people
  • Complete accurate accident report forms where necessary.
  • To provide support, advice and information to the children/young people.
  • To support young people to experience life opportunities which promote the growth of individuals to their maximum potential.

General  

  • To work in ways which promote equality of opportunity, participation and responsibility, following safeguarding guidelines at all times.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure all customers, guests and visitors receive a warm, friendly and efficient welcome to the Stables.
  • To promote a culture of health and safety during project sessions.
  • To undertake relevant training, attend relevant conferences and be up to date on service developments.
  • To undertake other duties as requested by the Managers. If any other duties become a regular requirement of the post, the Job Description will be reviewed.
  • Provide cover for absent colleagues.
  • Carry out administrative duties in connection with the post, and ensure all associated paperwork is completed to the required standard.

Min Level 3 Youth Work qualification

CV/Int

A minimum of 2 years’ experience of dealing with Alternative Provision service users

ü

CV/Int

5 GCSE’s or equivalent, including mathematics and english.

ü

CV/ Int

Experience of dealing with vulnerable client groups, and knowledge of safeguarding and child protection regulations and processes. Be willing to undergo a DBS check.

ü

CV/Int

Experience of working with /coordinating, Alternative Provision, volunteers and their activities.

ü

CV/Int

Experience of working within a quality focused environment e.g. ISO9002

ü

CV/Int

A working knowledge of Windows operating systems and software including developing and maintaining databases, which can be demonstrated along with a sound understanding of the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

Current driving license.

A track record of working in a non-discriminatory manner and acting as a role model in setting high personal standards in this regard which others can aspire to.
