Job Description

Carers Trust Tyne and Wear is a Gateshead charity for, with and about carers. For over 30 years, we’ve supported Gateshead residents living with the challenge of providing unpaid care to a loved with who is frail or who has a chronic illness, disability or addiction.

Our mission is to enable carers to enjoy a life alongside caring. To achieve this, we provide two key services. Our Young Carer Service supports 5–17-year-olds through health, wellbeing and social programmes. Our Carer Relief Service enables carers to take a short, regular break from their caring role by providing replacement care.

About You

We are looking for trustees that share our vision of a better life for carers. While not a requirement, we would particularly welcome applicants with experience of:
• Being a carer
• The care sector
• Working with children and / or young people
• Finance or accountancy
• Business management
• Fundraising

Commitment

Trustee meetings are held six times per year, generally at our site in Highfield, Rowlands Gill. Trustees will occasionally meet with staff in sub-groups to work on specific topics as and when needed, such as our Finance Sub-group. Trustees have a tenure of three years, with an option to remain on board for another term.

Why Be a Trustee With Us?

We’re an established charity with a reputation for high quality services and a history of innovation, flexibility and being open to the views and wishes of our carers. We have a succesful history of securing funding and hold two five-year contracts with the Local Authority. As a member of the national Carers Trust network, we are part of the largest body supporting carers in the UK and maintain legal compliance through their policy framework.
We currently support approximately 600 young and adult carers and demand for our services is increasing. The social care and charity sectors are both facing exceptional challenges so our trustee roles are an opportunity to play an important part in driving organisational development and securing our long-term future.

Benefits

We will reimburse all travel expenses for attending meetings.
