Job Description

Team Kenya is looking for a new trustee to take the lead on governance and risk management of the charity. This role has the potential to become a vice chair or chair role after a trial period.

Team Kenya is seeking to add to its Board of Trustees. This role has the potential to become the chair or vice chair of trustees following an initial trial period. We currently have seven Trustees; six are based in the UK (North-East and Sheffield) and one is based in Australia.  We are a small charity so our Trustees are involved operationally as well as in the traditional governance capacity of a Board member. We have two part time paid members of staff in the UK, based in Newcastle and Brighton.


Team Kenya is a small UK charity working in partnership with a Kenyan NGO, to empower communities to achieve sustainable development, gender equality and the alleviation of poverty.

Our mission is to involve entire communities in gender equality, so that girls and women in rural Kenya can create their own bright futures.

·        You are reliable and hardworking, you are autonomous

·        You are interested in the development of Kenya and possibly visiting to see the results of what we are doing 

What difference will you make?

Team Kenya is going through a period of change, in which we are beginning to “shift the power” so that more decisions are made by our partner organisation on the ground in Kenya and we provide the necessary funding and support. This will ensure maximum impact for our projects as well as their future sustainability. We are looking for an experienced trustee to help us ensure that we are following the correct procedures and have robust governance and risk management procedures in place as we move forward.

The charity was founded 10 years ago by Val Wilson, who is our Kenya partnership manager. Val has recently stepped down from his looking to step down from her role as chair over the next few months and eventually her role as CEO in 12 months time. We are looking for someone to take on some of her responsibilities to make sure the transition is successful

The trustee will join the charity at an exciting time and help to shape the charity moving forward. Team Kenya has built a great deal of evidence of our impact over the last ten years, and the right candidate will help us to ensure that we can continue to support lasting change in Western Kenya.
