Are you super-friendly, polite and have tons of energy? Join our innovative fundraising team in a supporter-facing sales role. This is the ideal position if you’re self-motivated, reliable and a keen charity newcomer.
As a face-to-face lottery fundraiser, you’ll work in local residential areas engaging members of the public on their door-step. For many new supporters you’ll be the first point of contact, telling them about the vital work we do and asking them to support us by subscribing to our weekly lottery. The lottery subscription is taken through a monthly Direct Debit for only £1 per week. Lots of local people love Teesside Hospice, what we do and how we do it, our lottery is a way for them to support us and make a regular contribution.
As a core member of our small fundraising team, you’ll play a huge role in growing our lottery membership ensuring Teesside Hospice is financially stable for years to come.
You are emotionally intelligent and have a natural communication style that is easily adapted to suit the situation.
You will be brave and willing to throw yourself into new situations, whether that’s knocking on someone’s door, chatting whilst someone is out shopping or trying to grab someone’s attention at an event – nothing will phase you!
You’ll have strong personal resilience. Fundraising can be a tough job at times but you’ll know how to celebrate the successes when they happen!
You are a confident networker who can communicate well with other people from all sorts of different backgrounds.
You will be someone who can engage people – making them feel instantly at ease and grab their attention.
You are someone who wants to have an impact, who likes to throw themselves into something. There is no room for someone who looks forward to 5pm arriving so they can leave.
You'll be really good at...
1. Communication skills
This role is external facing - you will spend a lot of time with lots of different people. We need someone in our team who prefers to chat rather than to stay quiet. You’ll be tenacious, confident and articulate, someone that loves the outdoors and can handle rejection. We want everyone you meet to have a positive experience whether they choose to support us or not. What really matters to us is how we make people feel and creating a lasting impression.
You will need to be able to close a sale, tie up those loose ends, gather information accurately and maintain records all whilst keeping the supporter engaged and relaxed. It sounds easy but it’s a skill! We can teach you the detail and the processes but you need to be a people person at heart to pull this one off!
3. Self Direction
You will have the support of the whole team behind you, because that’s how we work. However, we are a small charity and there’s a huge amount to do. This means we need someone who is able to work proactively and under their own initiative, someone who thrives on the chance to prove what they can really do.
Obviously, we’d love you to have experience in sales or fundraising, but we know you won’t necessarily have this. What’s more important to us is the type of person you are, however a 'can do' attitude is an absolute must!
This is a role for someone who wants to get into the charity sector and who is serious about making fundraising what they are really good at. If you are driven, capable, smart and can explain why you could do this job really well then we want to hear from you.
