The Borough of Barrow-in-Furness is situated at the southern tip of Cumbria, on the northern shores of Morecambe Bay and set against the spectacular backdrop of the English Lake District Mountains. It is surrounded by beautiful beaches and is a bustling Victorian town with a proud industrial heritage and a long association with shipbuilding and maritime activities. The area is perfect for people wanting an active lifestyle with easy access to beaches and the Lake District. The housing is second to none and very reasonably priced. The role is also commutable from the M6 and the surrounding areas with one of the most scenic journeys in the country. The local economy of the Borough is booming as never before as a result of the Astute and Dreadnought Submarine Programmes, offshore energy developments and investment by local companies. In contrast, public sector resources and the ability to provide high quality public services have reduced significantly.
