About the role

As the Executive Director for Health and Safety in the College this role requires you to manage the safety and risk associated with all activities undertaken across our campuses. You would lead and champion the health, safety and environmental vision and agenda at all levels across the organisation in order to drive ownership and sustainable ways of operating. In addition you would proactively plan, direct and implement the organisation’s safety program to ensure a safe, healthy and accident free environment.


About the Candidate

We are looking for a self-starter with a ‘can do’ attitude who can lead health and safety in our college group and continue to embed it across all our campuses. With a portfolio that includes a land-based provision you will possess a broad and deep understanding of health and safety legislation and its application within a teaching and learning environment. In the current climate of energy saving, recycling and better use of resources you will also be well versed in environmental legislation.

You must be prepared to work at all levels within the business and be prepared for travel within the North East area ranging from Hartlepool in the Tees Valley up to Berwick on the Scottish Borders, therefore you must have your own transport and a clean driving licence.

You should possess a history of delivering performance improvements, cultural change and embedding Health and Safety into an organisation.You will manage a small team so this is a hands on role and we would expect you to embed the College values and a safety culture into all areas.

You will hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent as a minimum and will be a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH). Experience of sustainability is required as is a pragmatic approach to safety and the ability to engage and communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
