Job Description

Harbour is delighted to have been awarded funding from the Ending Women’s Homelessness Fund and we are now seeking a Domestic Abuse Practitioner to help to deliver the project.

The project will seek to improve partnerships between our specialist domestic abuse service and homelessness services across six local authority areas in the north east: North Tyneside, Durham, Darlington, Stockton, Hartlepool & Middlesbrough.

The team will work with local authority homeless teams, organisations supporting those who are homeless, social housing providers, local private landlord groups, voluntary sector organisations working with women affected by substance misuse and other disadvantaged, vulnerable women. The postholder will be a Single Point of Contact (SPOC), able to advise and guide professionals within these organisations on the more complex domestic abuse cases, ensuring a trauma informed approach to maximise engagement. The Practitioner will also deliver domestic abuse training to front line staff.

The post holder will need to be female* as this is a gender specific project. We welcome applications from enthusiastic, compassionate women with experience of supporting vulnerable women. Experience of and knowledge about both domestic abuse and housing and homelessness will be needed. We are looking for strong people skills, good communication and presentation skills and an ability to work with initiative.

The role is 32 hours per week and the postholder will be able to choose a work base from across Harbour’s area of operations and utilise homeworking. Successful applicants must undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Harbour has delivered needs-led services for over 45 years, providing refuge and support for those experiencing domestic abuse. Harbour holds Silver Investor in People status and the Gold Better Health at Work Award. Our staff are empowered and encouraged to develop themselves to ensure the continuous improvement of our services.
