Job Description

Casual – Positions available across the North East!

  • £8.06 per hour.
  • We have a number of Casual positions available across our Adults, Children’s and Family Support divisions across the North East area. See our website to read more about each division.
  • Please note, due to OFSTED regulations, you must be four years older than our oldest service user (19 years old) to work within our Children’s Residential service.
  • Flexible shifts available for nights, early mornings, evenings and weekends. You can accept/declines shifts to work around your lifestyle/other commitments.

The North East Autism Society is the leading voice concerning autism and neurodiversity in the North of England. Established over 30 years ago, we have a trusted reputation of providing a range of quality, specialist services for children, young people and adults leading happy, fulfilling and independent lives. With over 700 staff in more than 40 locations in the North-east, we believe joining our NEAS family will not only provide you with a challenging and rewarding role but will help bring real life change for the incredible people we work with.

What do our staff say?

Meet Prisca, a Senior Support Worker in Adult Care, originally from Africa, who’s been with us for more than a decade. She said:

Ajob came up at NEAS working with adults and I applied. I was nervous because I didn’t know a lot about autism but I was passionate about helping people, so I went for it.”

But thanks to our career paths and development support she’s come a long way since then…

“Yes, I have, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my managers throughout the years. I’ve loved doing every kind of different training and learning how to do the job better, how to help the service users and I’ve loved learning more and more about autism. I remember my manager asking me if I was going to go for the post of ‘senior support worker,’ and I thought, ‘what? – how can I do that? English is my second language, I don’t know if I have the skills!’ But every step of the way I’ve been supported and encouraged. Like I say, it’s like family, and family helps one another.”

Whilst we value experience, you will need to have an awareness of autism and be committed to providing quality care to children and vulnerable adults on the Autistic Spectrum. You will need to demonstrate flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative and resilience, for what is often a very demanding but rewarding vocation.

In return we offer excellent terms and conditions. Joining our NEAS family will mean:

  • Working in a positive, friendly, rewarding environment, building your experience and career.
  • Dedicated support from your line manager who will work alongside you to enhance your career with our specialist training programmes. This is just the start of your new career!
  • Other benefits including childcare vouchers, pension contributions, an annual staff awards evening recognising and rewarding staff achievements, and much sought-after discounted rates at our family fun days and events scheduled across the year.
  • Having a hands-on role, valuing and supporting people. If you thrive on helping others, knowing everything you do is contributing to lives being changed then this could be the role for you.
