Job Description

Cleveland Police is looking for a dedicated and motivated professional to join the Force’s Corporate Communications Team in the press office. The successful candidate will help deliver innovative and exciting internal and external communications products, work closely with the media and support the Force’s wider engagement goals, particularly through social media.

The role is full time (37 hours per week with flexible working) and will be based at Force Headquarters which is at the Community Safety Hub, Middlesbrough.

Principal Duties and responsibilities

  • To assist with media enquiries where required, and provide responses to journalists
  • Research and analyse information on police systems, writing news releases and briefing material where required to support the team.
  • Work with digital communications staff to ensure content developed by Corporate Communications Officers is used on social media platforms for increased reach.
  • Provide advice and guidance to officers and police staff on media issues in order to maximise media opportunities and provide appropriate responses.
  • Monitor media coverage, identify issues of relevance and prepare reports and evaluation to keep the Executive Team and the Force informed of publicity, public concerns and items of local and national interest.
  • Support the Force’s Horizon Scanning through appropriate media, campaign and event monitoring.
  • Assist Corporate Communications Officers as required, representing the Force at major campaigns, events and news conferences.
  • Assist Internal Communications Officers as required, through messages to all, newsletters, the Force Intranet and other mechanisms.
  • Provide administrative support to the Head of Corporate Communications.
