Full time: 10 Sessions (40 hours per week) with 1 in 5 on call rota. 6, 12 or 18 month contract will be considered.
Part time: 4 sessions or more per week also available, on call commitment pro rata to hours worked. 6, 12 or 18 month contract will be considered.
Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Grade Doctor in Palliative Medicine, based at St Oswald’s Hospice, Newcastle. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of palliative care. The successful candidate will work at St Oswald’s within both the Adult and Children and Young Adults services.
You will be mainly involved within the Adult Unit, within the inpatient unit and day services. Basic medical level support to the Children and Young Adults Unit, is an element of all our Specialty grade posts. Out of hours is a 1 in 5 on-call rota, on- call is from home, first on, to inpatients on the Adult and Children and Young Adults Units plus telephone advice to health care professionals.
Post holder will participate in audit and teaching including the monthly Audit meeting. There are twice-monthly journal clubs held in conjunction with the Newcastle Marie Curie Centre and in-house education, as well as CPD-accredited bi-monthly meetings of the Northern Palliative Physicians Group.
A confident, persistent, flexible and adaptable person who thrives on challenges and variety you should be able to cope with a busy workload and working unsupervised whilst able to ask for guidance and support as required. You will be skilled in working in a multidisciplinary team, able to communicate with a wide range of colleagues and patient groups and manage your own caseload.
