Tel: 01429 266522
Hartlepool is a vibrant and forward-thinking town on the North-East coast, having undergone massive transformation over the last ten years. The pace of change has been quite incredible as millions of pounds have been ploughed into a range of developments.
Hartlepool Borough Council has played a leading role in the town's transformation and is undergoing its own radical changes. It has been praised as 'a very progressive local council' by Prime Minister Tony Blair who recently presented it with a 2000 Labour in Government Best Practice Award.
The Council is at the forefront of the Government modernisation plans and has replaced the old, unwieldy committee structure with a Cabinet-style system. It has also pledged its commitment to cutting bureaucracy, improving accountability and giving people a real say in decisions which affect them.
It is a unitary authority, providing a full range of council services, and employs 4,000 people. It has a revenue budget of almost £100m and covers a population of 90,000.
