St Oswald’s is one of the North East’s leading charities offering specialist palliative care and support to local adults with life limiting conditions and medically supported short breaks and End of Life Care for children and young adults with progressive life limiting conditions.  

Due to exciting developments in partnership with Dementia UK we have a vacancy for an Admiral Nurse to both develop a strategy for improving end of life care and support for patients known to St Oswald’s and also provide end of life/ specialist palliative care advice and support to patients and families living with a diagnosis of Dementia. The Admiral Nurse will work closely with other local Admiral Nurse Teams, Community Specialist Palliative Care Teams, Dementia UK and primary health care teams.

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who work with and support families and carers of people with dementia. Working collaboratively with other professionals, Admiral Nurses seek to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers. They use a range of interventions to help people live positively with the condition and develop skills to improve communication and maintain relationships.

Based at St Oswald’s Hospice you will be supported by Dementia UK through Practice Development, Clinical Supervision, and Continuing Professional Development, to maintain excellent standards and specialist skills in dementia care.

You should be a registered (adult/mental health) nurse, with significant experience at Band 6 or above in dementia care, a degree in a relevant subject is essential and specialist palliative care skills and knowledge highly desirable.
