An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen to work in the Independent Living team where you will be helping to deliver an excellent quality service to tenants and other customers by and assisting in developing an individual or families' ability to live independently.

For this you will need at least one year's experience of providing a customer focussed service to the public. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, external organisations and customers with vulnerable and complex needs and experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive information is essential.

As the Independent Living Section is a small team, the ability to organise and prioritise your own workload to meet conflicting demands, deadlines and achieve team targets is important along with good administration skills including accurate record keeping both manual and computerised.

DISC's Independent Living Unit - offers a range of services to support and assist people with housing and accommodation related issues. We provide services to a range of people with complex needs which includes people with a history of substance misuse, offending behaviour and mental health issues. We offer a range of appropriate housing related support, advice and guidance which sustains service users through the transition of change to an independent lifestyle in appropriate housing.

This Housing Liaison/Development Officer post will sit within our Hartlepool based drug and alcohol treatment services, providing advice, support and assistance to colleagues in the treatment services to enable them to meet the housing needs of their clients.

Your motivation to enable others to improve their quality of life is vital to this role. You will provide support on a range of housing issues to enable people with complex needs to access and sustain safe and secure accommodation.

Working alongside colleagues, you will:-

Provide 'expert' up to date housing knowledge to colleagues
Assist and support colleagues with clients housing related issues
Facilitate the building of relationships between treatment services and housing providers and other key agencies
Work in partnership with housing providers to increase accommodation options for clients
Assist colleagues to challenge homeless / housing decisions
Review and improve housing related processes and protocols

Your ability to work at a strategic level, network and build effective relationships with a variety of people and a working knowledge of the housing needs of this client group is critical to this multi faceted role.
